Baby-food Diary

Aug 9th – Tried rice cereal for the first time, 1 time a day, then stopped for about a week because you weren’t sleeping as well, but we found out it was because your teeth were hurting you at night.

Sept 1st – Began your 1st real food- Avocados and LOVE them!

Sept 5th – Tried oatmeal cereal and loved it, but after 3 restless nights of stomach and gas pains, we decide it is too hard for you to digest and stop giving it to you.

Sept 12th – Tried peas by themselves and then again with milk, you love them! Continuing peas and avocados. You are eating about 1-2 timeS a day and nursing 8 or so times a day.

Sept. 19th – No green beans yet, we are in the process of getting a food mill so I can make them for you myself. So, we started Sweet Potatoes instead and the verdict is in, you have a favorite food! On the first try, you ate a whole jar and had a serving of avocados and peas later in the day.

Sept. 20th – I made you some avocados and mixed them with rice cereal and breastmilk. I served it cold and at first you seemed apprenhensive by the temperature, but warmed right up and ate the whole mixture. Later that night, you ate a whole jar of peas.

Sept. 21st –Today, you had another large serving of food! In the morning you had peas, for lunch you ate sweet potatoes and at dinner you finished your jar of peas and ate the rest of your avocado rice mixture. You are still nursing 8 times a day- we think you are a little piggy, but we love you! You are getting so big.

Sept. 24th – We gave green beans a try. I wanted to make them for you, but obtaining a sieve proved very trying and finally I gave in and purchased the Gerber Organic Green Beans. You weren’t much of a fan. You ate them rather reluctantly with a sour face everytime- so after polishing off the 4 containers (about 4 days worth of 6 or so servings), it was decided you could try them again later on.

Sept. 30th – We went straight to bananas by your own persistance. You saw Mommy eating a banana and decided it was time you try one yourself, so I mushed up one (which was a good thing we did this as we had a whole bunch from the store that needed to be eaten!) You loved it and kept making ‘ummmm’ sounds. You had a 1/4 of one at first and then 1/2 of one on 3 other occasions. (Note, you have begun breaking out a little around your face and some on the back of your neck.) We can’t decide if it is the bananas, green beans, sweet potatoes or Daddy’s beard (you had a small patch similiar on your back where Daddy kissed you.) So, we are weening out the green beans, then the sweet potatoes to see if this helps and will go from there.

Oct. 3rd – Maybe we aren’t cleaning your face off good enough after you eat or maybe you are eating too much? It doesn’t seem as bad, so I am hoping it simply runs its course. We will have to pay much closer attention- this eating thing is a lot of work! The last 2 nights you have been extremely restless and waking half way through the night and wanting to be up instead of sleeping. I’m starting to think the chocolate bar I had may have something to do with some of this breakout?

Oct 4th – Today, you only ate a half a jar of peas. It was a rough day- you had a bit of an upset stomach. Nothing major, but I did try to feed you bananas from a jar. (They were Nature’s Best, although organic, they have Absorbic Acid and Vitamin C added…I realized the sweet potatoes also have the Absorbic Acid.) Anyway, since we didn’t have anymore bananas and I had this assortment of 1st fruits I figured we could give them a try before starting a new fruit yet. You loved them and had the whole jar, but I think we should have stopped at 1/2 a jar- I need to learn your ‘I am full’ cues better. About a half hour after eating them, they ALL came back up. Mommy should have known better since your belly wasn’t in a great mood to start with. Oh, well we will do better next time.

Oct. 5th – HOMEMADE PEARS for your birthday!!! You liked them, too. I think the coldness makes your gums feel good.

Oct. 11th- Nana fed you apples for the 1st time while we were home visiting. She said you loved them and ate the whole jar!

Oct. 18th- Back home, we give you homemade Peaches and I think these are your favorite fruit. Mommy and Daddy tried them as well and they sure are yummy.

Oct. 24th- Two days worth of carrots and you still aren’t the biggest fan, but we are going to keep on trying!
